The key is separating two different things: selling the whole property versus selling your own share. The answer is different for each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To sell the entire property as one transaction, yes, generally all the owners would need to agree, since no single heir owns the whole thing. That&#8217;s why families so often hit a wall: one relative wants to keep it, another won&#8217;t respond, and the whole property sits frozen because unanimous agreement is hard to get. If your goal were to sell the complete property, you&#8217;d be at the mercy of everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But here&#8217;s what changes everything: you do not need anyone&#8217;s agreement to sell your own share. Each heir owns an undivided interest, a portion of the whole, and your portion is yours to sell independently. The other heirs keep their shares, and a buyer simply steps into your spot as a co-owner. So while selling the whole property takes a group decision, getting yourself out, by selling just your piece and removing your name from a tax lawsuit, is entirely your own call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A couple of quick questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Can the other heirs block me from selling my own share?<\/em> No. Your share is yours to sell on your own. The other heirs can&#8217;t stop you from selling your interest, and they keep their shares unchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What if I want the whole property sold, not just my share?<\/em> Selling the entire property generally requires all owners to agree.
